A Canadian-Made Mask Deactivates 99% of Coronavirus

Everyone is waiting for the COVID-19 vaccine to roll out, but in the meantime, this is as close as we’re going to get – the University of Toronto confirmed that they developed a new mask that can neutralize the novel coronavirus.

Just last year, seeing someone wear a mask in public was a strange sight. However, the pandemic has turned the lives of billions of people upside down and going outside without a mask is now strongly discouraged. 

But what if you had a mask that can deactivate the virus? 

The University of Toronto recently announced their approval of a mask that can deactivate the novel coronavirus in mere minutes. Their press release states that the test conducted by their pool of researchers found out that wearing the mask neutralized the virus up to 99 percent. The mask is currently in production in Quebec and is expected to hit the market soon. 

About the Mask

The mask called TrioMed Active can kill the virus in just under two minutes, and it can be used for five years. 

In recent weeks, a lot of medical professionals have expressed their concern on how used infected masks, specifically its outer covering, can unknowingly spread the virus especially when not disposed of properly. Thankfully, this is not a problem when it comes to the TrioMed Active. 

The mask’s outer layer is made by i3 BioMedical Inc, which is dubbed as a one of a kind mask for its amazing capabilities. According to the tests of scientists from the University of Toronto, they were truly impressed by the results. 

The secret of the mask lies in its material. Another Swiss company claims to have achieved the same effect by providing the mask with a positive charge through unique fabrics. 

“The TrioMed Active Mask is the first and only respiratory protection that is scientifically proven to deactivate the virus causing COVID-19, therefore drastically reducing the risk of contamination for the wearer,” said the CEO of i3 BioMedical, Pierre Jean Messier. 

Messier also added that his company has been working on antimicrobial technology for years before the pandemic started, and they have invested millions of dollars in this mask’s development. The company also offers medical tapes, gowns, wound dressing, and other personal protective equipment.  

Aside from the novel coronavirus, the mask can also deactivate the H1N1 influenza virus for up to 99 percent.
