Young Firebrands of Asia’s Designers

Mar 13, 2019 | Korea, Style, Taiwan

Asia doesn’t have a shortage of homegrown luxury brands in the region – here’s why.

China, the biggest market for fashion brands in the entire Asian region, recently showed that its own Generation Z is spending over seven thousand dollars on luxury goods annually. This is good news for the youngest, aspiring firebrands of the Asian fashion industry.

While these designers and their brands aren’t as big as LV and MK, the actual designs and what they are pumping out for the high fashion market are nothing short of astounding. There is absolutely no way that these young firebrands will lose if they keep doing what they love the most – which is creating art and fashion in the largely homogenous fashion industry. These new brands inject new life into the scene which should have been done a long time ago, truth be told.

Jolin Wu (Taiwan)

Jolin Wu’s tag line “unique aesthetics portray” is a hot new world for Asian fashion lovers as this London-trained designer unfurls a unique aesthetic that combines the delicate lines of traditional Taiwanese garb with a throwback (or rather, strong nod) to the colors and shapes of the seventies and eighties.

Her current collection features light robes in a multitude of colors, as well as wide leather belts, half-covers, and beautiful nature accents accomplished in blues, greens, and whites.

While Jolin Wu’s designs are far from earth-shaking, they are definitely beautifully thought out and perfect for summer and springtime jaunts, and they’re definitely worth your bucks if ever they become available in a store near you.

Moon J. (South Korea)

Founded in London by designer Jinhee Moon, the Moon J. luxury brand recently moved its operations back to the designer’s home country of South Korea and is consistently making waves as a chic and contemporary luxury alternative for South Koreans and Asians who want well thought out designs, and iconic-looking outfits.

Moon J. designs can be described as flowing and bright, with emphasis on the entire outfit, and not really on just one part of the female body.

The current collection radiates with smart lines of light blue and cream and is definitely a throwback to European fashion trends that is very feminine and at the same time, functional and strong. Definitely a counter-current against the Hollywood, bare-skin vibe of designers from North America and Europe.

Ashley Lim (Australia/Korea)

Ashley Lim is on a quest to make her mark in the world of stylish footwear. She posts her newest designs on Instagram and provides free standard shipping internationally. Her beautiful creations are chic, modern, and will never be alien to existing fashion trends in the region. What’s more is she makes sure that there is a universal appeal to her designs, so anyone can find a pair that would be perfect for the personal branding and personality.
